I purchased this book based on some recommendations I
read on a forum. I guess I expected a book full of tips and tricks on how
to run a successful business with software. I was wrong. The book
basically gives you an outline of whether you should run a service,
product or hybrid company and how many companies start as products and
turn into services and vicaversa. He bases all of this advice on his own
experience at several very large companies, and this is accompanied by a
lot of financial data and "success" and "failure" stories.
Maybe it does give advice, but most of what was said, IMHO is quite
obvious when you've been in the business for a long time. At the end
of the day, like anything else, it also takes luck to become successful.
